大道氾兮, 其可左右. 萬物恃之而生而不辭, 功成而不有. 衣養萬物而不主. 常無欲, 可名於小; 萬物歸焉而不主, 可名爲大. 以其終不自爲大, 故能成其大.

Đại Đạo phiếm hề, kì khả tả hữu. Vạn vật thị chi nhi sinh nhi bất từ. Công thành bất danh hữu. Y dưỡng vạn vật nhi bất vi chủ. Thường vô dục, khả danh vu tiểu. Vạn vật quy yên nhi bất vi chủ. Khả danh vi đại. Dĩ kì chung bất tự vi đại cố năng thành kì đại.

Đại Đạo tràn đầy, có thể sang trái hoặc sang phải. Muôn vật nhờ nó mà sinh ra mà nó không từ chối, công thành mà không nhận của mình. Nuôi dưỡng muôn vật mà không làm chủ, có thể gọi là Nhỏ; muôn vật quy tụ về mà không làm chủ, có thể gọi là Lớn. Vì cuối cùng không tự coi mình là lớn, nên mới thành được cái Lớn.

1. 1. All-pervading is the Great Tao! It may be found on the left

hand and on the right.

1. All things depend on it for their production, which it gives to

them, not one refusing obedience to it. When its work is accomplished, it does not claim the name of having done it. It clothes all things as with a garment, and makes no assumption of being their lord;--it may be named in the smallest things. All things return (to their root and disappear), and do not know that it is it which presides over their doing so;--it may be named in the greatest things.

1. Hence the sage is able (in the same way) to accomplish his great

achievements. It is through his not making himself great that he can accomplish them.
